Friends Annual Luncheon and Meeting 2016

The Friends held their annual Board of Directors meeting on May X, 2016. The Board meeting was followed by the annual luncheon with guest speaker Colonel Angela Suplisson, head of the USAFA Aeronautics Department and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Center, where she is responsible for all UAS research and UAS airmanship training at the academy.

Colonel Suplisson graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado, in 1991. She served as a test engineer at Eglin AFB, was selected for Test Pilot School in 1995, and remained at Edwards as a Flight Test Engineer and Flight Commander.

In 2000, she was selected to study in Lyon, France under an Olmsted Scholarship, graduated as a Distinguished Graduate from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and graduated with a master’s degree in International Policy and Strategy from the University of Lyon III, France, in 2003. She subsequently served as the Executive Officer to the Program Executive Officer and an International Program Manager for Canada, Italy and Turkey while assigned to the Joint Strike Fighter Program Office from 2003 to 2006. She returned to the world of test as commander of the 846th Test Squadron, Holloman AFB, New Mexico, in 2007.

In 2009 she resumed her academic career with two years as the deputy for Plans and Programs, the deputy department head and an instructor of aeronautics in the Department of Aeronautics at USAFA, three years at the Air Force Institute of Technology earning her PhD, and finally her current position as the Department of Aeronautics head and UAS Center director.
