Friends' Annual Luncheon

Our annual luncheon this year will be held on May 21 at the Academy Club. The guest speaker will be Academy Superintendent, Lieutenant General Tony D. Bauernfeind. Before assuming command of the Academy last August, Gen Bauernfeind served as the commander of Air Force Special Operations Command. He is a 1991 graduate of the Academy, and he returns at this time of consequence to develop the next generation of combat leaders.

If you are in the area at the time, we would be delighted to welcome you to join our other patrons for the event. You can purchase tickets online via EventBrite, or download the reservation form (links below).

Women Air Training Officers

In 1975, 15 female lieutenants were selected from a pool of 600 young women Air Force officers to serve as both test pilots and role models for the first female Air Force Academy cadets. The use of women Air Training Officers (ATOs) was based on the Academy’s decision in 1955 to use young male Air Force lieutenants–instead of upperclass cadets from West Point or Annapolis–to train the first three classes of AFA cadets.
